Adults Discussion Group Desk Talking Generated Image April 22 2026 10 59amMental Health Week 2026 was something rather special. From 11th to 17th May, Stoneleigh Community Library hosted a programme of free community wellbeing events that drew residents of all ages through our doors. It was, without question, one of the warmest and most uplifting weeks we've had at the library in a long time.

The response from the local community was genuinely heartening. Sessions filled quickly, faces were familiar and new in equal measure, and the atmosphere throughout the week was welcoming and relaxed. It felt exactly as a community library should feel.

Finding Calm Together
Monday morning saw the Community Room transformed into a peaceful space for guided mindfulness and meditation, led by Lodestone. The feedback from those who attended was overwhelmingly positive. Customers told us it was just the kind of quiet, unhurried experience they had been looking for.

Creativity and Calm: The Art Sessions
Tuesday's Calm of Art sessions, delivered by Art-K Ewell, attracted a full house. With art materials provided and tea, coffee and biscuits on hand, the Community Room became a creative haven. It was lovely to see so many people discover that art really can be good for the mind.

Coffee, Community and Conversation
Thursday's Coffee Plus session, a firm favourite at the library, was especially well attended during Mental Health Week. The presence of a BACP Registered Psychodynamic Counsellor from HCD Counselling gave customers a relaxed and informal opportunity to ask questions about counselling and mental health support. There was no pressure and no formality; just good coffee and good conversation.

Throughout the entire week, the Mental Health Book Display and Local Support Services screen offered a steady stream of helpful resources, with many customers pausing to browse, take leaflets or note down information. Further wellbeing advice and support is available through the Surrey Health and Wellbeing Board.

We're proud of what our small volunteer team put together for Mental Health Week 2026. More than anything, we're proud of the community that came along and made it so worthwhile. Events like these remind us why Stoneleigh Community Library matters.
