Regular Activities at Stoneleigh Library
At Stoneleigh Library we try and support the whole community by encouraging the use of our library facilities for various activities.
Reading Groups
For book lovers who enjoy meeting like-minded readers and talking about the books they've read, and for people who like the challenge of discovering books they wouldn't normally choose.
There are three reading groups (see below), and all of them meet approximately every six weeks.
The adult groups are free to join, but there is a nominal charge each time they meet (£1.00 – £1.50) to cover the cost of book reservations.
Two books are reviewed at each meeting.
The junior book group is free, fun, and there are biscuits!
Rhymetimes and Storytimes
- Mondays
Sessions are held weekly on Monday mornings, alternating between Rhymetime and Storytime.
They are free, with no need to book, and have a maximum of 20 children's places available on a first-come, first-served basis. Simply show up and enjoy the songs and stories with your child(ren).
Rhymetimes are aimed at babies, toddlers and preschool children, along with their parents and carers. The events consist of sharing nursery rhymes, action songs and percussion music – it's fun, interactive and noisy!
Storytimes are aimed at children aged two years and older, and with parents and carers.
Stories are chosen with the age group in mind and are short, engaging and fun. The aim is to encourage children to begin to concentrate and listen to stories as well as respond and build vocabulary.
Sessions take place during school term time on Mondays in the Children's Library.
- Rhymetimes: 10.30 am to 11.00 am.
- Storytimes: 10.30 am to 11.00 am. (Optional craft session follows from 11.00 am to 11.30 am.)
We have an exciting announcement to make. Due to popular demand, Storytime will be extended by an extra 30 minutes to incorporate a craft session. (Rhymetime remains unchanged.) This optional craft session (from 11.00 am to 11.30 am) follows Storytime. The craft activities will be inspired by the stories. Children can take their crafts home and use them to recreate the stories with their parent or carer. Stories will be on a different theme each week.

Lodestone – Monthly Meditation & Reflection Group
- Mondays
This is a monthly session for those who want to "step off the treadmill" for a short time, and put all their immediate stresses, responsibilities and pressures on the back burner
Aims and Goals: to relax, recharge and become more sensitised to the elevated qualities of each day and not be drowned by the mundane. This will allow you to be more resilient and equipped to manage your daily stresses.
Each session begins with a gentle introduction before short readings from philosophical, poetical and spiritual works, interspersed with music. Those willing to read can do so. Each month has a theme. There is an opportunity for the group to share comments/thoughts/questions with each other.
First Monday of the month: 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm
Library Meeting Room – enter at the back of the library.
These are not drop-in sessions; you will need to book in advance.

U3A Epsom and Ewell Flower Arranging

- Fridays
Two groups meet monthly at Stoneleigh Community Library to explore the art of flower arranging. Group 1 gathers on the third Tuesday, whilst Group 2 meets on the fourth Friday of each month.
These sessions cover fundamental principles of flower arranging through engaging talks and practical exercises. Members develop their skills whilst working with fresh blooms in our community room.
Group 1 meets on the third Tuesday of each month from 2.30 pm to 4.00 pm, and Group 2 convenes on the fourth Friday of each month from 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm.
Note: Membership of U3A Epsom and Ewell is required to participate in these groups.

Both groups welcome new members who share an enthusiasm for creating beautiful floral displays. Whether you're a beginner or have some experience, these monthly meetings provide an opportunity to learn and practice this creative craft alongside like-minded people in our community.

Maternal
Journal
- Wednesdays
Join local facilitator Louise Rigg, for weekly guided sessions of journaling, creativity and reflection.
This offering is for pregnant women, mothers and caregivers.
The space offers a relaxed environment, with an opportunity to connect with others at Stoneleigh Library. No artistic experience required and all refreshments and materials provided.

Nonsuch Counselling Discussion Group
- Thursdays
The group meets on a Thursday evening 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm approximately once per month in the Community Room at Stoneleigh Community Library.
It's a support and learning group for qualified counsellors and psychotherapists. A member introduces a topic which is then discussed.
Participants need an open mind and a willingness to listen to opinions they may not agree with.
Cost: £15 per session.

Ewell Court Women's Institute – Craft Group

The group meets fortnightly on a Thursday 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm in the Stoneleigh Library Community Room. The group is only open to members of the Ewell Court Women's
Institute.
The craft group consists of knitters, sewers, artists or whatever projects members which to do. Members often share ideas and help each other. Providing their own materials and enjoy each other's company.
If you are interested in joining Ewell Court WI we meet the first Wednesday of the month at Stoneleigh Methodist Church.

Coffee Plus Mornings

Stoneleigh Community Library welcomes residents to gather and socialise in our comfortable community room every Thursday morning. Whether you're looking to meet friends and neighbours or simply enjoy a relaxing break, our Coffee Plus sessions offer something for everyone.
Drop in between 10.30 am and noon each Thursday. There's no need to book, and refreshments are provided free of charge.
Challenge yourself with tabletop games, work together on jigsaw puzzles, or bring your own craft projects to share with fellow enthusiasts. Prefer something quieter? Settle down with a good book or browse through magazines in our welcoming space.
Several sessions feature special activities or themes. Coffee Plus Mornings will resume on Thursday, 3rd September weekly, until 17th December.
These Coffee Plus Mornings demonstrate the library's dedication to creating accessible social opportunities that strengthen our connection with the local community. Everyone is welcome to join us for company and hospitality.
Coffee Plus Craft will begin on 1st October with Mandala dot craft. On 5th November will be Autumn Crafts and on 3rd December we will create Christmas decorations.

Vegan Meet-Up

An informal monthly meet up at the community room in Stoneleigh Library.
A chance to meet other vegans and those interested in the vegan lifestyle.
Contributions to help cover the room hire are appreciated (suggested donation £2 per person).
There are tea and coffee making facilities, feel free to bring along some food for the table. Pot luck style!

Family LEGO Club
- Saturdays
For children and families who want a challenge to create something amazing, there is a Free LEGO club once a month.
The club is aimed at families with children aged four to 12 – it's for parents/carers and children to have fun together.
We have a huge selection of LEGO to choose from, with Duplo available for younger children.
Regular meetings are held in the Community Room on the first Saturday of the month, from 10.30 am to 12.30 p.m.

Young People's Chess Club
- Saturdays
Our Chess Club meets on the second Saturday of the month (except for Christmas and the School Summer Holiday months) from 2.30 pm to 3.30 pm in the Community Room. Chess sets are provided, but you can bring your own.
The informal sessions give children an opportunity to have fun playing and learning about chess together and to share tips and strategies on how to improve their game. Beginners are also very welcome.
Chess Club is for eight to 16-year-olds. Children aged seven are welcome to join in, but will need an adult to stay with them. The sessions are supervised by one of our adult volunteers, sometimes assisted by young volunteers aged 14 to 17 years.
Pre-booking is not necessary, just come along and join in.
